Abeokuta – Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State has declared that his successor would be a woman, a whiz kid that would rule the state till 2027.
The governor spoke on on Tuesday while fielding questions from newsmen on the sidelines of a news conference he addressed on the forthcoming 2018 Africa Drum Festival in Abeokuta, the state capital.
On the sustainability of the Drum Festival after his tenure in May 2019, Amosun assured that his choice successor would be a whiz kid, who would surpass him in all ramifications.
He was confident that with the performance of his administration, the All Progressives Congress (APC) would win the 2019 elections in the state.
“Let me say this; a woman is going to be next governor of Ogun State. She is a whiz kid that will key into what we have been doing in the last eight years,” said the governor.
As he was quoted to have said recently that his candidate “will not be politician, not even in APC,” the disclosure on Tuesday might have further put to rest all permutations, even in the ruling APC in the state.
Amosun said his preferred candidate would be a vibrant and successful youth.
He refused to give details on the identity of his preferred candidate, but explained that his candidate would continue with the projects and programmes of his administration after 2019.
The governor first gave an insight into his likely successor at a closed-door meeting with members of the Ogun APC in the National Assembly and principal officers of the House of Assembly, January, in Abeokuta.
What is sure, according to Amosun, is that the candidate will come from the Yewa axis of the state.
APC aspirants eyeing the governorship ticket from Yewa axis include Suraj Adekunbi, House of Assembly speaker; Tolu Odebiyi, the governor’s chief of staff; Abdulkabir Akinlade of the House of Representatives, and Isiaq Akinlade, a former House of Reps member.
