Students Host 2019 Presidential/Governorship Debate in Nigeria

The Education Act, 1999 provides an opportunity for students, intending them to play an integral and important role either in the school or at the society level. Students Voice provide a representative structure through which students can debate issues of concern and undertake initiatives of benefit to the school and the wider community.

Students have a voice and a contribution to make to their school and the community. It is important that they be given the opportunity to express their views on issues of concern to them either in the school or at the wider community level. It is equally important that they are listened to and encouraged to take an active part in promoting the aims and objectives of the school, coupled with the society agenda. The 2019 Students' Host Presidential/Governorship Debate is a most welcome development which is the first of its kind in Nigeria.

The event is part of the imminent activities for the 2018/19 Safe School Week Year Campaign Awareness, a research-focused initiative set to address the most critical challenges confronting the academic community, and to highlight best practices on how schools can be made safe and more secured. 

From all arrangement, Students from various institutions of learning will be engaging the TOP contenders of (Presidential/Gubernatorial) aspirants of the contending parties in Nigeria. The event is a non-partisan program but rather, is committed to fostering inclusivity in our current democratic system, and by facilitating a level-playing field for all aspirants. The goal of the program is to allow civic engagement accessible, efficient and impactful. Participating students will highlight the accountability of the aspirants with emphasis on Education, Security, Health and Empowerment.

The Lagos State event comes up in January 31st, 2019 at the LTV Main Auditorium Hall Conference Hall, Lateef Jakande , Agidingbi, Alausa, Ikeja by 11am. It is one-of-a-kind that harness the youthful vibes and virtues, a procedural right forum that enable students to have a sense of belonging in our democratic decision-making process, by engaging aspirants with questions that is mostly affecting the academic communities, civil populace and mostly the children and youth. The event promises to help students gain a broad multi-faceted knowledge cutting across several disciplines outside their normal academic activities, increase their confidence, poise self-esteem, provide an engaging, active and learned-centered activity.
