Ngozi: It is interesting that we have men to come talk about the International Day of the Girl Child that I happen to be the only girl child. There are a lot of burden on the girl child, what do you say is the position of the girl child not just globally especially as it concerns us here in Nigeria?
Taiwo Akinlami: When you talk about the girl child as today is the International Day of the Girl Child Unicef. It is important that we understand principles are universal applications are peculiar. The state of the girl child in Nigeria is different from the girl child in other African countries and globally. It has been said that there are 1.1 billion girls all over the world. Therefore, the fundamental issue that affect the girl child in Nigeria is our believe system, children whether boys or girls are endangered let alone the girl child. We are living in a society where even those that are supposed to be exposed still believe a girl child is not a child.
TVC News Correspondent: How do you see us evolve to be able to empower the girl child using our schools?
Dan Ekere: In the first instance from statistics, many girls are in school these days. I think there are some levels of consciousness going on in some parts of the country that you will find many girls in school. The issue of training is the function of discipline e.g. a subject is taught and both boys and girls do the critical thinking in answering questions and solving problems.
